High Attendance at Southeast Biofuels and Renewable Energy Conference

The inaugural Southeast Biofuels and Renewable Energy Conference was held on August 8-9 in Jackson, MS. This event was hosted by the Mississippi State University Sustainable Energy Research Center and the Mississippi Biomass and Renewable Energy Council. This conference combined what used to be two separate meetings, and was attended by over 175 attendees from academia, industry, and government.

The conference was co-organized by Associate Professor and Texas Olefins Professorship holder Rafael Hernandez of the Swalm School of Chemical Engineering, and was divided into five clusters:

  • Biofuels from Wastewater Produced by Pulp and Paper Operations
  • Biodiesel from Algae at a Power Facility
  • Biofuels from Mississippi Resources
  • Solar Power Applications
  • Non-fuel Bioproducts from Biomass
